All Candidates must complete a State Officer Candidate Application form and obtain the appropriate signatures.  The completed applications are due in the state office on September 25th.   Please note that there are separate forms for High School (secondary) and College/Post-secondary candidates.  PLEASE DO NOT FAX THESE FORMS TO THE STATE OFFICE.

All candidates must take the State Officer Basic SkillsUSA Knowledge Test and achieve a grade of 70% or above to qualify for running for office.

All candidates should be prepared to give a 2 – 3 minute speech to the voting delegates and other conference participants.  Candidates will be asked problematic questions at the Thursday morning delegate session and will be interviewed by the officers of each district prior to the balloting.

Students considering running for state office should be mindful of the serious commitment of time and energy that a successful candidate will need to devote to being a state officer.  A Kansas state officer serves the organization and members.  Students already involved in varsity athletics, outside youth groups and serious commitments of time to hobbies and other pursuits, may find themselves running out of time and energy if they are elected.  Please discuss this commitment with all candidates from your school prior to the conference in Hesston.

Behavior

Read the “Code of Conduct” section on the Liability and Medical Release form concerning expected behavior.  This is a premier leadership activity for the Kansas association and professional behavior and respect is required.

Review the “Code of Conduct” with all students from your school.  The stress of an overnight activity may result in inappropriate actions on their part and problems for you to manage.

There is not a lot of down time in the schedule of this conference to maximize the impact and learning for students.  Teachers are required to attend and participate in all sessions to maintain appropriate supervision of the students.

Competitions & Recognitions

The KS Statesman Award recognizes the efforts of students and advisors to learn and demonstrate knowledge of our organization.
